Here ends the pageant of how England stood
Against oppressors strong and over-bold,
A few at bay, making the ruin good,
Even to death, in darkness, mud and cold.
Women and men, of old as now again,
Have faced all odds to keep our honour clean;
Should danger fall in this beginning reign,
God being with them, they will save the Queen.
