Firsts steps

  • Hi and be welcome! -jkb- 17:03, 12 February 2016 (PST)

  • Hello! Thank you! I would like to add the french physicist Paul Langevin to Category:French authors, to Category:Physicists, to Category:20th century authors, and to Template:NewAuthors. Please help me. Thanks in advance. Paul-Eric Langevin 13:40, 13 February 2016 (PST)

  • I am trying to edit the following picture: Image:Paul Langevin Wellcome2.jpg|thumb|Paul Langevin on the page but I don't succeed in doing that, I don't know what is wrong. Thank you to help me. Paul-Eric Langevin 00:05, 16 February 2016 (PST)

  • We have problem with the Commons files; you should upload them here to be visible on Wikilivres at the moment, only. Also svg files don't work properly, here. More info, see here: InstantCommons broken. I uploaded the file locally and it is visible now -> File:Paul Langevin Wellcome2.jpg. Electron ツ ➧☎ 15:48, 15 February 2016 (PST)

  • See here: Wikilivres:Community Portal/en; I think that the problem is that you created too many "empty" authors pages, without their works (or works that can't be put here because they a still copyrighted - they are "too young" to be put here). Usually we make the autor's page when his/her work is puting here... Electron ツ ➧☎ 15:41, 28 February 2016 (PST)

  • I precisely started to use wikilivres instead of wikisource for Paul Langevin because it could be used for texts not yet in the public domain. About the "empty" pages that don't present enough texts, it is just a question of time. The authors are not too young, they are important authors of the 20th century, but I am OK to discuss it case by case, thanks Paul-Eric Langevin 00:50, 29 February 2016 (PST)

  • Ok, thank you for all the information, don't forget to upload the pictures for the authors that don't create any problem. Thanks. Paul-Eric Langevin 13:25, 29 February 2016 (PST)

  • Please stop adding texts by authors that are still copyrigted in Canada, they all will be deleted -> Wikilivres:Possible copyright violations‎‎. If you don't stop your account wil be bloked. Also if you add a text you shold produce the source link from where it was taken. I'm think that you understend the problem. Electron ツ ➧☎ 08:00, 29 February 2016 (PST)

  • I understand the problem, I just thought texts on wikilivres could be added even if not in the public domain but apparently it's not the case, please don't block my account, just give me information about texts which can be added and texts which can not. Give me information about authors that are indeed in the public domain and others that are not. Suppress the texts which are a problem of rights. And don't forget to upload the pictures of authors that are with no doubt free of rights. Thank you very much. Paul-Eric Langevin 17:20, 29 February 2016 (PST)

  • I produced the links above, with descripions about Canadian copyrigths. Generally, all works done by an author are PD in Canada 50 year after authors death. All exlusion should be documented by editor why he thinks they are in PD - but it is specific and the user should understend Canadian low, before upload. There is no other way but read it carefully.

  • If you think that we should have empty author's pages you should start the discusion on commmunity portal, to produce the argumants for your thinking. Electron ツ ➧☎ 08:35, 29 February 2016 (PST)

Authors and Public Domain

  • Hi Paul-Eric, Electron did describe some problems above. One point is the copyright violation in some cases - I'm sorry but I will have to delete the pages; I will wait with it till tommorow, so if you wish to save the code text you have time to do it. Another problem are the author pages of authors, who are not or will not be in the public domain for a long time. I found the pages like Henri Cartan (died 2008), Ève Curie (2007) and others - the works will be free in 2058 or 2059! Wikilivres is (like Wikisource) a project for texts; we supply the author pages just to keep the text together, the author pages have quite secondary role. Thus, normally, every author should have some works published here. Bibliography and the list of works - that is something for Wikipedia projects. I think the author pages can stay here anyway, thank you for you work with it, but as you can see, many of them will stay "orphan" for a very long time. OK, cheers, -jkb- 16:06, 29 February 2016 (PST)

  • Hello -jkb-, thank you for your message, indeed some authors are still not in the public domain for a very long time. Thanks to keep in state the pages I created. But for the authors that are in the public domain for a long time, I will try to complete the pages with texts and works, so the pages can be useful and seem like any other page on this encyclopedy. I am trying to do so today with the work of Georges Politzer, died in 1942, more than 70 years ago. Tell me about the texts that you want to delete before deleting it, please. Thanks for the informations and good night, Paul-Eric Langevin 01:35, 1 March 2016 (PST)

  • Hi Paul-Eric. Concerning the last events here I would like to mention some points. As I can see from your contributions lists in the WMF projects, you edit there since more months, but probably you did not study the problems of licences and copyright sufficiently. So, apart from the links, you got from Electron, the simple rules are like this: according to the copyright law of canada the works are normaly protected 50 years after the death od the author. That means: works of an author, who died 1966 or later, are still protected an cannot be published here. Works of authors, who died 1965 or earlier, are free since January 1st 2016. In the Wikisource projects the term is not 50 but 70 years after the death, that's the main difference. The domain Wikilivres did simply decided to respect these juristical laws. OK, I'm sure you will find many authors you can use for Wikilivres. Cheers. -jkb- 16:49, 5 March 2016 (PST)

  • Hello, thanks for the message and the information. Keeping in touch, Paul-Eric Langevin 23:00, 6 March 2016 (PST)

Texts on Wiklivres

  • Oh shit, realy, see Mathematische Probleme, I formated it a long time ago and I loved it (not!). I will have a look at your texts, <math> is not my best favourite ... But it could take time. -jkb- 12:43, 3 March 2016 (PST)

  • Hi. It's probably more difficult as I thought. After I have controlled the chapters of Mathematische Probleme I recognized, that the syntax doesn't work any more, there seem to be some software problems with it; I tried to write your formulas step by step, but I had no success. I'm afraid either somebody else must help you or the software must be upgraded. Sorry, but I am in fack no expert in this. Cheers, -jkb- 16:50, 5 March 2016 (PST)

  • Hello, thanks for your help, about equations of mathematical physics, indeed it's not as simple as it seems. Try to find someone else who could help me. I will take a look on my own, especially about TEX language applied to Wikilivres. Cheers, Paul-Eric Langevin 13:50, 6 March 2016 (PST)

  • Done. Next time try yourselve - I suppose you have done more than 100 edits, so you are an autoconfirmed user user now; if so you should be able to edit this page. Electron ツ ➧☎ 15:51, 15 March 2016 (PDT)

  • OK, I will try to upload them during weekend. Also you can try to upload them yourselfe, push "uplad file" on the left sidebord and put approciate licence templates, see e.g. here Electron ツ ➧☎ 17:14, 25 March 2016 (PDT) Done. Electron ツ ➧☎ 03:21, 2 April 2016 (PDT)

Welcome again

Welcome and Join the Discussion

  • Hello, welcome to the reborn Wikilivres. There are still a few things not working as before, but we are getting it sorted out as quickly as possible. Please join the discussion on technical requests and general policy. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 16:16, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Yes, please put on the links to the texts on https://fr.wikisource.org as before. --Paul-Eric Langevin (talk) 17:36, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
  • I'm not sure what links you are referring to. Where they on a page or a sidebar? I was not the sysadmin before. Can you describe more what you mean? --Jeffmcneill (talk) 12:57, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
  • The links are active once again (the links on the authors pages), thank you. PEL.

Math support in Wikilivres.ca

  • Hello @Paul-Eric Langevin:. I'm sorry for the delay in support of <math>...</math> markup. I've spent considerable time on this, but it has eluded me so far. There is a new approach for math support which uses Mathoid. Thank you for your patience, math has always been problematic in mediawiki. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 12:55, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks so much. PEL.

L'Evolution de la mécanique

  • Hi. I have two questions.
    • It looks like there is a table of contents at the end of the page, can I move that to the top?
    • The html encoding of the name is a little different in the subtitle above (and the title template on the page), vs. the page itself:
      • L'Évolution de la mécanique
      • L'Evolution de la mécanique

Which one is the correct, my guess is L'Évolution de la mécanique? Note that for Google, these are different searches (but with the same target) and the first has 1.8m, the second 1.3m results). My guess is we want the inexact version to have a redirect to the exact version. --Jeffmcneill (talk) 14:35, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

  • You can move the table of contents to the top of the page. Actually, I will do it myself. The correct name of the book is L'Évolution de la mécanique. You can redirect the inexact version to the exact version. --Paul-Eric Langevin (talk) 16:55, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks you for your help and support. The text is now complete. P.E.L.

License about PGL

  • hello; i hope you can understand this, my french is not good; but i can try with google translate if necessary? thank you for all your work & contributions! :) there is one important/serious thing however: for each of the works from your father, you as rights-holder, must add a license for permission to use; because the work does not yet qualify as public domain. here is the selection of licenses we have "ready-made". https://wikilivres.ca/wiki/Category:License_templates cc (creative commons), ideally 'cc-by-sa', or gfdl would probably be best. please understand that this message is not meant to be unfriendly or discouraging, you are most welcome here. it is just that the works must be licensed properly, for us to keep them here legally. best wishes & regards, Lx 121 (talk) 18:51, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Hello, Yes, I understand the problem and I will do the necessary things in order that the works can be licensed properly. Thanks for the links. Maybe I will need your help. I try to arrange this as soon as possible. Greetings, Paul-Eric Langevin (talk) 21:00, 29 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Hello, I took informations about the licenses, and I added the category "CC-BY-SA" to the pages concerning my father's works. However, I don't know if the work is finished. If I have to do other tasks to add the license, I will need your help. There are a lot of informations about the licenses and I don't know how to go on on this problem. Best wishes & regards, Paul-Eric Langevin (talk) 21:00, 2 May 2017 (UTC)
  • Hello, What can i help you with? took a quick look, & everything seems to be in order.  :) Lx 121 (talk) 07:32, 3 May 2017 (UTC)
- did you understand the terms of the license? the text is available in french. Lx 121 (talk) 01:24, 4 May 2017 (UTC)

End of year donation drive

Hi Paul-Eric Langevin, Thank you for your valuable contributions to Biblio.wiki. I'd like to make a request to help fund the monthly server costs. I don't have any record of a money donation from this account (but maybe it was done anonymously or under another name, please let me know). We don't need much, but it costs more than zero dollars/euro/rubles to keep the site running. Paypal of $10 USD (or any other amount) would be very welcome at this time. Thanks for all your help on the site! --Sysadmin (talk) 09:13, 15 December 2017 (UTC)
